• Aquatic invertebrates are animals without backbones. This can include many different types of animals such as mollusks (e.g. snails), arthropods (e.g. crabs), worms, and even insects. They rely on the water for their respiration and feeding and therefore must live in water permanently. They are also called 'aquatic animals'.
