I think rotala macrandra really stands out nicely.

I always wanted to try these but wasn’t too sure on the dirt to use, and how to get out the extra crap they put in the dirt like wood chips. Also wouldn’t it get messy fast if the fish swim around it or if you have to…

They are scattered throughout the tank, but more heavily in the background and mid-ground to offer more visibility in the foreground.

I never really paid much attention to this, but that makes sense.

I really don't like the look of fake plants; I feel like it makes the entire aquarium look cheesy. Plus, the plants to me can be as interesting as the fish and invertebrates sometimes.

That is a really cool idea! I never thought of that before, but why not? Just like a regular garden/selection of houseplants, but in water.
