I’ve seen a few tanks in stores that had what appeared to be brown/red algae in the saltwater tanks, but not too sure on the more common types. Is it still just the brown algae from too much light, or are there others that you want to take care of ASAP if you see them in your tank?

You will see the common ones in freshwater that are also in brackish/saltwater, such as;
  • Green Algae
  • Brown Algae
  • Red Algae
  • Blue-Green Algae (can have an appearance of more blue-ish in saltwater than it does in freshwater)
The causes are all different per each type of algae, so there isn't really a blanket reason such as too much lighting, or too much decaying matter.
