Rainbow fish
Those are really pretty, but I have never tried keeping them.
I do, especially the saltwater ones.
Around the price range you stated seems pretty normal for me, but I personally prefer fish to cost a bit more as it encourages people to take their care more seriously.

Hardest fish to keep?
I agree with Quicksilver that shrimp are quite a pain.

Fish species?
@cy.paul, did you ever confirm whether they are indeed gold barbs?
You can’t go wrong with tetras in general, but my favorite right now are harlequin rasboras.
I know I’ve had a goldfish last a good long time before, but I don’t remember exactly how many years.

Colorful vs. Dull Fish
I voted for both because I think there are a lot of different attributes that can make a fish interesting beyond just how bright and colorful it looks.
The price you mention is about what I tend to see for these types of fish; I have never seen them for cheap.

Fake coral vs real coral
Fake coral doesn’t do anything. It just sits around. Real coral is fascinating!

Do you worry about rust in your reef tank and if so how much does it take to get you concerned?
I’m looking for suggestions on this very issue.
Finally, I understand. Thanks for this.
My first tank, everything died within a short span of time. But I never figured out what killed them.
I would also like to see a list of do's and don'ts with salt.
I have no idea. But misinformation and social media pretty much go hand in hand.
I wish I knew just how often the fish one buys from the store are already unhealthy
Vinegar makes it super fast and easy.
Hey admins, the link in OP’s post currently sets off my AVG with a phishing warning. OP should fix the link or it should be removed.
Is this out yet? Has anybody played it? Is it as cool as it looks?

Hitchhikers
Yes, often, I call them "Mysteries." I keep them if they are not harmful.
