Looks like they just changed the ads and wording to be the ā€œ50% off saleā€ - not sure if we will see this progress after this sale date or not, but something to be aware of in case you walk in and don’t see the normal signage for the $1/gal sale.

Have to love marketing changing things around.

Yeah I noticed this as well, and dependent on if it stays this way in the future I will change some of the wording in here as they updated it. It does however stays roughly the same price for 29 gallons and below (maybe a few cents in difference).

DEPENDS ON LOCATION I THINK BUT COOL SALE FOR WHO GETS IT

100% agree, it seems that they are moving away from a nation wide event and are shifting to regional events (probably due to supply constraints or a specific regional warehouse being too loaded with tanks).

We’ll see try to track them under the national level, but let us know if you see any in region specific areas so we can mark them as well - thank you!

It’s back on! But I agree now with this being changed forever, might want to rename this thread possibly since people are going to get super confused. Plus @Petco already has noted this will be the case moving forward;

ā€œThanks for your question! We have replaced our $1 per gallon sale with a 50% off Aqueon Open-Glass Tank Sale, so that we can include more tank options (yay!) We do not have any information on the next sale at this time, but please stay tuned! 🐔 🐠 šŸŸā€

Looks like an event started last weekend, and ends November 28 2021. I’m not sure if this is regional since my contact and area don’t have this going on, but just as a word to all to check!

As a small heads up - there are a bunch of reports internally that they are replacing the 50% sale, to become now a 30% sale across the board due to loss on revenue. Once I can confirm or deny this, I will update the thread and post an additional reply with the facts.

Sadly, I can confirm that the 50% off sale is no longer (at least for the upcoming few events they have listed out). It is replaced by the 30% off sale on these tanks. I have updated the event details on here to reflect that, as well as note that the current event has been ongoing since January 9th, 2022 (we weren't tracking it because it was below the 50% threshold).

I was ironically going to reply to here regarding them changing it at least in my market. I was hoping it isn’t a permanent change but guessing by the new marketing changing online even I sadly think it’s going to be this way going forward from now on.

As you said, only time will tell, however with them moving from $1/gal to 50% off the retail price, and now 30% off the retail price, I think that this move is permanent in order to save costs from inflation overall.

What is even stranger is that Petco’s social media team seems to still be talking about it as if it’s 50% off, so not sure if the 30% was some type of one time test or an off sale but labeled as such?

Also to update there is a new confirmed event starting February 27th (the ad is placed on March 1st, so might start then instead going forward) for the whole month of March 2022.

Looks like that 30% sale was just an intermittent sale possibly? It’s back at 50% now again even with this horrible inflation we have going on.

Keeping up with the past 2 years now, the event has always ended around March/April, and started again on July. Therefore we predict the same, with it stating the first week of July and ironically ending the last week of July.

FYI, it looks like Petco is having a "Flash Sale" on all open tanks, similar to this type of sale, for the rest of the day (appears to be a random 24-hour window they selected).
