Are these worth it inside of saltwater tanks as they are in freshwater tanks? Does it really catch that many particles from algae to parasites, or is it more harming since some algae and particles are healthy for live rocks and corals (in the future)?

UV can effectively eliminate cloudy water due to bacterial blooms and reduce the spread of nuisance algae in the tank.

UV can prevent and control bacterial growth and spread of algae but it cannot eliminate it completely. At the same time, UV can kill phytoplankton which are part of the food chain in the aquarium which definitely will affect the fishes in the long run.

Am not a big fan of UV sterilizers, I prefer to use a good mechanical filter. And I periodically change the water. I believe the UV lights would destroy useful microorganisms along with the disease-causing bacteria. My mechanical filter has kept my aquarium clean & clear till now.
