How do we determine appropriate tank temperatures for different fish species?

Since each species have a slightly different temperature range that they prefer, due to the specific ocean/sea area they are from, or even the difference from the more shallow waters to the more deepers - how do you handle the temperature ranges for your fish species to make sure that they can all be within an acceptable range and have the most benefit overall?
