I’d always recommend to just go for a general idea, and then write it down or use photos online to make a rough draft of how it would look. Then keep rearranging them until you find something that is appealing to your tastes, and go for it!

I normally tend to fill mine up all of the water. For me, seeing the top of the tank below the trim (unless it’s a rimless tank) is kind of not that lovely (plus it’s wasted space where more water could be to have leveled parameters).

I’d just make sure to observe the fish, coral, or invertebrate you are looking to buy in the tank for like 15mins. I’d also recommend to ask them to turn off the blue lighting if possible since that can hide some elements that you may only see under a white light.
Other times their interactions, or when they feed them, can show you if something is wrong or not as well.

I’ve always tend to buy them on Amazon, since you can get killer deals without the markup that some stores have to place. The only time I’ve ever gotten a light in a store was due to them having a combo deal on getting a tank and another piece of equipment, or with a coupon from the manufacturer I was able to score some $$ off.

Since I fed like everyone has different setups, how do you handle the curing and treating of the tank/species? Do you take them out and treat in a separate tank, or do you treat the whole tank dependent on what is it and how contagious it is?

Do you let debris collect on the substrate naturally and just let the fish move it around (until it gets to an excessive amount)? Or do you try to keep your substrate layer super clean at all times?
I feel like the natural look of where debris land is nice (unless it’s all poop which makes me just readjust my filters to avoid that), but debris like leaves or pieces of wood/small rocks are fine to me.

I tend to just use anything that I know will hold the weight, looks good, and is built to last for awhile. I’ve seen plenty of tank stands that aren’t built to last more than 5 years if they get a single drop of water on them before.

100% parameters. Everything requires very specific set of parameters which makes things way more confusing in terms of water changes, etc.

I think it’s more about saving costs now than anything else. Especially when they save on paying for a panel or two of glass and can swap that out for plastic or acrylic on some tank kits.
I’ve never seen any type of tanks that have tint on them or other designs. I think the most unique was PetSmart’s idea to take the back panel and make it plastic, to have that be where the lights are from in the tank. Sadly, it had a poor experience with leaks and the spread of LEDs and their brightness.

Probably would say African for smaller tanks and American for larger tanks due to their sizes as they mature.

You mostly want to look for any pure white on them, or for there too be no color (and for some they do not open up even if in the right parameters).
Do you have any photos by chance?
Does it like smell like how a dead snail would be chance? Like that rotting color? I don’t have any photos but I’m sure I can ask him for some.

I have a friend who has a coral that hasn’t opened up for a week so far, and we’re both worried it’s dead. It still has color on the outside of where it opens up, but not sure if it’s just in a state of shock or if it’s gone already. Any advice?

What do you use, and how do you specifically make sure that any previous used aquarium equipment (if even used months prior or an hour prior) is safe for your tank(s)?
