I noticed that salt equipment is higher too. The initial set up of a tank requires more things too that are different from a fresh water tank. I was told that the fish are harder to take care of but I've never actually confirmed that! So maybe all that combined allows company to charge more?

Yes, fish will eat frozen food. We always had packages in our freezer. If you go to buy frozen food, make sure you bring along a cooler with ice in it when you travel to and from the fish store. Better to be safe.

Yes! I think they just like to show it off? I think that everyone has a price and if you offer the right amount of money that they would sell to you. Give it a shot?

What kind of turtles are you referring to? Size matters! Also, make sure you're not just getting turtles from your local river or pond because they could have salmonella.
I've seen really small turtles living together in a tank, but the people I know who own any always own just one.

As long as it keeps moving at some point, it sounds fine! Are they going near the bubbles from the pump maybe? Perhaps they enjoy the float?

I bought my husband (when we were teenagers and dating) a red-tail shark and it was one of his favorites. He was bad about feeding them though so his tank didn't really survive. The shark was nice to the other fish and seemed happy when I first gave it to him.

Besides what Avery said, how big is your tank? If you keep them in a smaller tank, they probably won't grow as large. I know it sounds weird, but having them in the right size tank will allow them to grow to the full capacity.
Plus, how long have you had them?

How often do you clean your tank? If you aren't cleaning your tank often enough and if your pump isn't strong enough, you'll get algae. You want that perfect balance in the tank and that could take some discipline and careful watching.

My dad regretted purchasing large Angel fish because they started attacking the other fish in the tank! I always thought angel fish were pretty, but I had no idea they were so aggressive. Eventually he chose to sell those fish and the tank was peaceful again, albeit with less fish in it since some got killed.

There used to be so many mom and pop fish stores when I was growing up. They offered a lot of services for free but I don't think there are many around anymore. I'd love to see a long list of those types of stores around the US. But getting back to the OP, I'm not sure much is offered for free any more.

I voted for community. The reason is because I think that certain fish have a specific role in the tank and they all benefit one other. That doesn't mean that all my angelfish are going to get along with other species but I know that my algae eaters are necessary.

I'm not getting any at the moment but I think I would want a large fish that has some color. It doesn't have to necessarily be very active or crazy like some fish can be. I enjoy watching them swim around of course but it doesn't have to be spastic. (I'm looking at you Mr. Goldfish who wobbles around the tank).

There are veterinarians for other types of pets, but has anyone heard of a fish doctor? I'm curious who you go to besides the pet store for help when your pet is not looking so great or has a disease?

Sometimes you have to make their area smaller and that could mean trying to work two different nets at the same time. If they shoot to an opening you'll have a better chance of capture with a net in both hands.

I think that regular tanks would be easier to clean? I've seen really cute ones and some fun ones for kids but it's been a while though.

We had a 75 gallon tank when I was a kid, so to me the worst thing that happened was when the larger fish would eat the babies right in front of me.
-
We never filled the tank completely because we had fish that would jump out of the opening in the tank cover.

Are live plants better for the aquarium than fake plants? I can't remember having live ones in our big tank but I was a kid so it didn't matter to me at the time anyway. I'm curious if it helps better with the filtration in the system and easing up on algae to have live plants?
