It has now been a full year since setting up my dedicated Betta tank, and the evolution has been both educational and rewarding. The initial setup comprised a 10-gallon glass tank, a sponge filter for gentle filtration, and a 50-watt adjustable heater to maintain stability. Substrate started as plain sand, but was later replaced with a fine gravel mix to better anchor live plants.
In the early months, live plant selection included Anubias, Java Fern, and some floating Water Sprite. Lighting was a modest LED bar set on a 7-hour cycle. Over time, plant growth flourished, and I introduced Cryptocoryne Wendtii, which added both texture and color. Occasional algae outbreaks were managed by adjusting light duration and spot-cleaning as needed.
My Betta displayed increased activity and vibrant coloration as the environment matured. Water parameters have remained steady, with weekly 20% water changes and regular testing. I found that adding Indian almond leaves enhanced both water quality and the health of my Betta, promoting natural behaviors.
Reflecting on the changes made throughout the year, I’m encouraged by the tank’s stability and the well-being of its resident. I welcome any comments or suggestions regarding further aquascaping or Betta enrichment.
