Here are the best substrates for a planted fish tank: Flourite, EcoComplete, Fluorite, and ADA. Although the aquascaping style is quite different with each of these substrates, they all do the job as well as the other.

I’d like to add on that organic potting soil is also another a good underrated option that does require washing, but it’s stupidly cheap compared to those options
