I wish I knew, but I have no idea. The first tank I had I took a pretty casual approach, and I forgot.

Thank you so much for the replies!
What did you end up getting?

I think rotala macrandra really stands out nicely.

I always wanted to try these but wasn’t too sure on the dirt to use, and how to get out the extra crap they put in the dirt like wood chips. Also wouldn’t it get messy fast if the fish swim around it or if you have to clean your tank?
Why do they put wood chips in the dirt?

Never seen a turtle around where I live now, but I did see some when i was on the east coast. No clue what species.

I don't know, but I remember another member on here having a really bad experience with cherry shrimp breeding.

I found it pretty easy to grow sea lettuce. And it helped balance out the nitrates in my tank too.

Avery's advice makes sense to me. Just go based on context.

I've never had a glass tank. Is there anything to like about them?

Petco is the only one I’ve heard of that does this, but I am also curious if there are other options out there.

I find it kind of hard to work with gloves on, but I still wear them.

I think it often happens that a few people start a misinformation campaign or even just are mistaken themselves, and then other well-intentioned people share their posts thinking they are true. Before long, it spreads to more and more people. Unfortunately, on the Internet, it's quite easy for misinformation to spread quickly and widely.
That's true. Think how many people hit "share" on anything they find interesting without taking the time to fact-check it first.

I would not try this in a city.

Freshwater tank has rocks and plants, saltwater tank has the same plus old coral and shells.
-
I try to fully clean my tank every month, and do some amount of cleaning in between, though I often am a bit lax on that. I need to be better about it.
-
I started with freshwater first; it was easier and less expensive.
-
Great idea, love it!

What about a plecostomus? Is there anyone out there that uses those?
Those are really cool! I've never had one though.

Unfortunately, I think that things will be sold if people continue buying them, regardless of whether or not it's ethical. It always makes me sad when I see fish in really small tanks or bowls. Like others have said, though, people think that fish are easy or cheap pets.
You raise a good point. When something is inexpensive to begin with, people fail to value it. If all fish were priced more highly, I wonder if it would change how people treat them.
