African vs. South American Cichlids

Between the two, which is your go to (or your avoid at all costs) option and why?

Have you kept any species from either category, and if so, how did it end up?

Probably would say African for smaller tanks and American for larger tanks due to their sizes as they mature.

If I have a medium sized tank, it would be for sure Africans since they are tiny and can be shanking together if done right.

If I have a larger tank, 100% would go for South American since they are bigger, and make a big statement just by slowly moving through the tank.
