Some fish like to hide and some need to hide from bigger fish. Having plants gives them a safe haven and they'll be happier and live longer. You don't want to overcrowd a tank with plants, but you don't want to have too little plants either. Think about how many fish you have and try to estimate how many plants they'll need.

Aqatic plants not only give the fish you have in your tank a place to hide and feel safe, but they also give them that natural habitat feeling which as well can lead to happy fish and we all know if fish are happy, we are all happy. When placing plants in a tank though it is always wise to take a look at the space you have and how many fish you have in said tank. You want to create an area where they can hide if they wish to but so that it does not feel overly crowded for the fish.

Apart from all the benefits of having plants in your tank, I enjoy the aesthetic feel it gives while watching the fishes inside the tank. The slightly swaying tiny leaves to the motion of the fishes is so refreshing to watch.
