Do you place any plastic shields over your heater?

  • I’ve seen a bunch of fish stores start to carry these plastic shields that go around your heater, to prevent turtles, bigger fish, and others from resting on or directly near the heat and burning themselves. Have you used any of these or tried one out yet? Curious on the results people have in terms of the heater heating correctly still and the reaction from fish (do they think it’s a hidden area to hide in or avoid it completely).

  • I personally do not, since most of the fish tend to avoid being next to the heater (even my turtle does), although I would place a shield if it was in an area that fish may get trapped in (such as an enclosure, for example).
