When you setup your tanks and stock then, do you go for a majority of them to be schooling fish - or do you go for more centerpiece fish without background fish?
Do you prefer lone fish species or schooling fish?

I never thought about it really. I just pick whatever I am interested in at the time. A mix?

Depends on if I want centerpiece fish, coloration, or if I just want a bunch of flashy fish that zip around )schooling ones).
-
Usually I get the centrepiece fish, not the schools, but now and again I get the school fish.

I love to watch schools of fish myself. So for me I would like a mixture of both in a larger tank.

I'm inclined to agree with Sharon, I like to watch schools of fish, so I see no problem going with schooling fish for a tank. It is aesthetically pleasing, for sure, though I do understand the appeal of centerpiece fish!

For freshwater tanks I tend to prefer to get a shoal species since it can be endless entertainment when watching. Plus, they can be fun looking at when feeding as they all race to the same small area at the top.

I like the fish schools the most.

Fish schooling is definitely a treat to our eyes. They are just so beautiful to watch them.

I usually have a mix of both. A large one as the center piece and smaller fish schools.

I would prefer mix of both in my tank. They are very pleasing to watch and very beautiful too.
