Why do many saltwater stores don’t have a refund policy like they do with freshwater?

  • If you have ever compared the two, it seems like freshwater fish that die for whatever reason always get a full refund - but saltwater fish either have no refund or they have a 20-50% original price refund policy. Any reason?

  • I mostly believe that they have it this way since freshwater fish are normally far easier to reproduce in captivity, whereas saltwater are still mostly taken directly from the ocean (although this is improving as time goes on).

  • The only kind of policy my stores offer is for an exchange or refund if the fish dies within 14 days of you buying it. However, you need to bring the fish in and they will actually test it for different things and in some cases may only allow a 50% refund or sometimes nothing at all. It is very weird.
