Do you have an air stone in your tank?

  • I recently found out about air stones that you can use in your tank that whilst not as effective as something such as a filter, can work towards keeping your water clean and also helping with the oxygen in the water as well.

I have never had an airstone in my tank before but I do wonder if others do have one and whether they feel they are beneficial to their tank.

Do you have an air stone and is it something you would recommend to someone else with a tank?

  • Hey Shortie and everyone,

I’ve got a little bubbler in my tank, and it's like my fish are living in a luxury spa! 🐟💦

Sure, it's not a replacement for a good filter, but it definitely helps with oxygen levels and adds some cool vibes to the tank. My fish seem to enjoy the extra bubbles, and it even looks super zen. Who wouldn’t want a mini Jacuzzi, right?

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! If your fish start blowing little bubble hearts, you know who to thank. 😂💙

    Cheers,

  • I do have an air stone in my tank! Honestly, it’s like my fish now expect a five-star resort with complimentary bubbles. 😄 Apart from looking cool and keeping the water moving, it makes it way more fun to just sit and watch. Do my fish appreciate it? Hard to tell, but they do swim through the bubbles like it’s an amusement park. Can recommend if you’re looking to jazz things up—plus, who doesn’t want the soothing sound of bubbles while you chill?

  • Yeah, I’ve got an airstone in my main tank too, and to be real, it’s more for my peace of mind than the fish sometimes. Sure, it looks cool—everyone loves the little stream of bubbles, right?—but let’s not kid ourselves: airstones aren’t doing half the heavy lifting a proper filter does when it comes to actual water quality. If you’re relying on bubbles alone to keep your tank healthy, you’re gonna end up with some pretty disappointed (and possibly gasping) fish.

That being said, airstones have their place. Extra oxygen during hot weather? Yep. Helping circulation in that dead corner of the tank? For sure. Making your tank look like some underwater disco party? Obviously. Some fish love playing in the bubbles (betta fish either vibe with it or look at it like “what the heck is this?”), so watch how your crew reacts. But let’s not oversell it: an airstone plus a sub-par filter isn’t some magic solution.

So yeah, they’re nice to have, just don’t treat them like they’re fixing everything. And if the sound of bubbles drives you nuts, skip it—or get ready to wear headphones a lot. Just my two cents!
